Sunday Socials is back March 15th

Social Sundays

Social Sundays returns on March 15th for the Springtime.

With Winter League complete it’s time to roll out Spring Social Sundays.

Social Sundays takes place on Sundays starting at 11am. Sunday Social will be aimed at all members and new comers, especially those who cannot play much during the week. If you also have a junior player feel free to bring them along also as we will be arranging both Junior and Senior matches. Afterwards we have a social gathering in the clubhouse where people can chat over a cuppa and a slice of cake.

New members and potential new members are also encouraged to come down and say hi. This is a free event. All you need is a racquet, balls so if you are new or have not been around much but would like a game you’re very welcome.

Social Thursdays every second week at 8pm

Social Tennis will also be held every second Thursday starting on March 12nd. Check the Calendar to see when coming up.

Catherine Harris is swimming to support the Enjoy Tennis Programme

Sponsor Catherine now!

The Enjoy Tennis programme is a nationwide initiative to provide tennis access to those with intellectual disabilities. Currently there are some 40,000 people with an intellectual disability in Ireland and they don’t get many opportunities to play tennis or to receive coaching.

So, on most Friday afternoons since November 2015, players and supervisors from organisations associated with St. Michael’s House come to Ashbrook. They have a one-hour session with two specialist coaches. Our volunteers also attend and join in all the activities.

On 23 April, 2018 Catherine will engage in the Swim a Mile initiative (a mile is 64 lengths of a 25m pool) on behalf of our programme. Many members sponsored Catherine last year and we hope many can do so again.

Contributions can be made online via our Subscriptions Page.

TEN out of TENnis

Andrew Ryan is running a mixed doubles event at Ashbrook on Sunday the 15th of April which is part of his module for college, ‘Event Management’. The charity is in aid of Bumbleance charity which is a brilliant charity. It is the children’s national ambulance service, so it would be much appreciated if people could save that date to play on the day or be a spectator.
The entry cost to play will be €10 per person. It will be cash on the day, although if people wish to see Andrew beforehand to pay off, that is also fine.
Participants must tell Andrew who their partner is for the competition. If participants are looking for a partner they must also tell Andrew, so he can set up pairs. He will be down at the club weekly to inform more about the event, and posters will be around the premises as well. There will also be a BBQ on the day and excellent raffle prizes. so please do not miss out, it is for a worthy cause.
Please confirm your interest by mobile : 0892045752, or by email :
We hope to see you all, it’ll be a great day.

Ashbrook 2nd Team : Ladies Class 5, Dublin Lawn Tennis Winter League 2017

It was a wonderful occasion for Ashbrook Ladies 2nd Team who played in the Class 5 Winter League Final yesterday in Greystones LTC.  The team  played a very strong Clontarf 4th, team and unfortunately Ashbrook lost and didn’t make it 9 in a row. This Ashbrook team have had a terrific campaign,  they have worked very hard as a team , motivating each other, attending coaching sessions and having practice games every week and personally it was a privilege to be part it.
I would like to thank Marie Cassidy who did a wonderful job as Captain encouraging us all the way. The team didn’t need a sub until  the quarterfinals and semifinals, when Marie went on holidays but we had a super sub to take her place, Grainne Dilleen stepped in and played with Therese and won two very important matches to secure the team a place in the finals , Grainne a big thank you .
On behalf Ashbrook LTC congratulations to the team, Dolores Molly &  Paula Jones, Therese Mulvey & Marie Cassidy and Cathryne McCarthy & Ann Strahan  you did your club proud.
On behalf of the team many thanks to all the supporters who came out to Greystones yesterday at 11 a.m to support us it was very much appreciated.
It’s been a very successful Winter League for Ashbrook ladies teams, Two promotions – 3rd team promoted to class 6 , 2nd team promoted to Class 4 and reaching a DLTC final and our 1st team remaining in Class 3 , well done to all who played.
Next up the Summer League which commences for the ladies  week beginning 8th May and let’s hope Ashbrook ladies will enjoy more success.
Again congratulations to the 2nd Team for a fantastic performance over the last 9 weeks, promotion and reaching a DlTC final a wonderful achievement.

Intervarsities at Ashbrook

The Intervarsities at Ashbrook was a huge success.  The tournament was very well run and the students were delighted with Ashbrook.  Some of the tennis was really outstanding.  Ashbrook worked really well as a venue!

Like all great events it takes a team to make it happen.  I don’t really like singling out people as I know somebody will be forgotten so apologies if I have forgotten you.

Dara Carolan should be singled out for the great job he did at making Ashbrook look amazing (very ably assisted by Ann Strahan) and for living in the club for the three days.  He was a great coordinator with the students and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Brian Bohill lived at the bar for the last few days and he didn’t even have a drink!  Things got so busy that his wife had to be drafted in to help!  Thank you Brian for trojan work.  Thanks also to the all Vaughans – Steven, Catherine, Adam and Leo – who were always on hand to help at the bar, the cleaning or whatever was needed.  Kate got rid of lots of recycling – thanks Kate.  Jamie McCarthy donned the rubber gloves and did a lot of work picking up bottles and rubbish on Saturday.  Thanks to all who helped out at the bar including Siobhan Byrne, Marie Cassidy, Paula Jones, Clare Lynch, Cathryne McCarthy, Sile Quigley and Cath Tooher.

I think special mention should also go to Ann Strahan who does an outstanding job of making the clubhouse look great.

Also thanks to Rosaleen we can now accept debit and credit cards at Ashbrook – well done Rosaleen.

Thanks again to all the volunteers and supporters.
